jimmy hoffa

James Riddle Hoffa left school at the age of 14 to work full-time to support his family. He was quickly caught up in the whirlwind of labor union militancy of the 1920s and 30s. During the Great Depression and the Second World War, Hoffa became a leading figure in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Taking over the union in 1957, Hoffa became the focus of a Congressional inquiry into corruption in the labor movement. Eventually imprisoned, he still fought to retain control of the Teamsters. But with enemies within the union, the Mafia, and the federal government, Hoffa was playing with fire. He disappeared in 1975, never to be found. Ever since, theories have flourished as to who might have been involved in a conspiracy to kill him.
